Lawn Care Tips

Never cut more than one-third of the grass blade when mowing.
If you follow this simple rule, the remaining two-thirds of your plants will develop deep roots and spread out, eventually creating a denser and healthier turf. A healthy lawn is the best medicine for preventing weeds and future diseases. Of course, using this technique means shorter intervals between your mowings in the spring and other high-growth periods.

Change your mowing pattern.
Try not to mow following the same path each time. Think of a clock. Begin at the 12 o'clock position and go towards the 6 o'clock position. The next time you mow, start at the 9 o'clock position and mow towards the 3 o'clock side. The third time around, mow from 1 o'clock to 7 o'clock, etc. Changing the mowing patterns every time you mow prevents the soil and turf from compacting and prevents those wheel patterns on your lawn.

Leave grass clippings on the lawn.
Grinding up the clippings with your mulching mower and leaving them on the lawn will give your lawn the valuable nutrients it needs. This can also apply to tree leaves in the fall. And don't panic: grass clippings don't promote thatch (dead turf).

Water early in the day.
Watering between 4 am and 9 am helps prevent the sun from robbing moisture from your lawn. It also gives your lawn a great chance to dry up in the morning. Wet grass at night can lead to lawn disease. Most lawns need about 1-2 inches of water per week to stay dense and healthy.
