Winter

December

Continue leaf removal

Apply post-emergent weed control to lawns and shrub beds as needed.

Perform flower maintenance as needed (deadheading, weeding, & fertilizing)

Begin winter pruning shrubs to open up and allow light and air penetration

Begin cutting back of winter grasses

Apply a lime application to warm season lawns (bermuda & zoysia)

January

Continue winter clean-up of leaves and debris from shrub beds and lawn areas

Prune trees to rise undercarriages and shape

Apply mulch to shrub beds

Complete the installation of spring bulbs by the 15th

Continue flower maintenance as needed (deadheading, weeding, & fertilizing)

Begin pruning of Crape Myrtles

Begin cutting Liriope back

 

Continue cutting Ornamental Grasses back

Apply dormant oil to shrubs to reduce insect problems in the spring & summer

Apply post-emergent weed control to lawns and shrub beds as needed

Apply a round of slow release turf fertilizer to fescue lawns

Winter prune shrubs to open up and allow light and air penetration

After the 15th begin gradually lowering warm season turf (bermuda & zoysia). ¼ inch per mowing until you reach the height of 1 inch for bermuda and 1.5 inches for zoysia.

February

Complete winter clean-up of leaves and debris from shrub beds and lawn areas

Prune trees to rise undercarriages and shape

Apply mulch to shrub beds

Continue flower maintenance as needed
( deadheading, weeding, & fertilizing)

Continue pruning of crape myrtles

Continue cutting liriope back

March

Complete pruning trees to rise undercarriages and re-shape

Complete mulch applications to shrub beds

Continue flower maintenance as needed (deadheading, weeding, & fertilizing)

Complete the pruning of crape myrtles

Complete cutting liriope back

Prune roses

Apply post-emergent weed control to lawns and shrub beds as needed

Complete the application of pre-emergent weed control to lawns and shrub beds
Begin fertilizing trees and shrubs

Complete the gradual lowering of warm season turf (bermuda & zoysia). ¼ inch per mowing until you reach the height of 1 inch for bermuda and 1.5 inches for zoysia

April

Begin inspecting turf, trees and shrubs for insects and disease and treat as necessary

Begin pruning shrubs as needed

After the 15th start spring flower installation

Summer

June

Apply a round of slow release turf fertilizer to warm season turf (bermuda & Zoysia)

Complete spring flower installation by the 15th

Perform flower maintenance as needed
(deadheading, weeding, & fertilizing)

Apply post-emergent weed control to lawns and shrub beds as needed.

Prune shrubs as needed

Mow, trim and edge lawn areas

Inspect turf, trees and shrubs for insects and disease and treat as necessary

 

July

Prune azaleas after blooming prior to the 4th

Perform flower maintenance as needed
(deadheading, weeding, & fertilizing)

Apply post-emergent weed control to lawns and shrub beds as needed

Inspect turf, trees and shrubs for insects and disease and treat as necessary

Mow, trim and edge lawn areas

Apply a lime application on fescue lawns

( deadheading, weeding, & fertilizing)

Apply post-emergent weed control to lawns and shrub beds as needed

Mow, trim and edge lawn areas

Inspect turf, trees and shrubs for insects and disease and treat as necessary

Fall

September

Begin aerating, overseeding, and fertilizing fescue lawns

Fertilize trees and shrubs using a balanced fertilizer

Perform flower maintenance as needed
( deadheading, weeding, & fertilizing)

Inspect turf, trees and shrubs for insects and disease and treat as necessary

Mow, trim and edge lawn areas

Apply post-emergent weed control to lawns and shrub beds as needed

Prune shrubs as needed

 

 

October

Begin leaf removal

Apply a high potassium fertilizer to warm season turf (bermuda & zoysia)

Mow, trim and edge lawn areas as needed

Apply post-emergent weed control to lawns and shrub beds as needed

Inspect turf, trees and shrubs for insects and disease and treat as necessary

Prune shrubs as needed

Begin installation of fall flowers

Apply per-emergent weed control to warm season lawns
(bermuda & zoysia)

November

Complete installation of fall flowers

Shut down and winterize irrigation systems

Continue leaf removal

Some spot mowing may be necessary

Apply a slow release fertilizer to fescue lawns

Apply post-emergent weed control to lawns and shrub beds as needed.

Perform flower maintenance as needed
